In November, CHANEL unveiled its Cruise 2024/25 collection in Hong Kong, featuring a special panel discussion titled “Hong Kong Frames”. This event aimed to celebrate the city’s significant contributions to film history and its vibrant role as a hub for emerging filmmakers. Landelion was honored to provide professional trilingual (Mandarin, English, Cantonese) simultaneous interpretation (SI) services for this prestigious occasion.

II. Service Content

Simultaneous Interpretation: Four top-tier trilingual SI interpreters were provided to facilitate seamless multilingual communication for all attendees.

Interpretation Equipment Rental: A total of 400 sets of SI equipment were supplied to ensure every participant received real-time interpretation with precision.

III. Project Challenges, Highlights and Solutions

1. Equipment Scarcity and Cross-Border Allocation

The local supply of SI equipment in Hong Kong was limited, and as an internationally renowned fashion brand, CHANEL had stringent requirements regarding both the appearance and performance of the equipment.

Solution: We meticulously crafted five detailed equipment allocation plans, each outlining the specifications, appearances, cost, and pros and cons. After thorough evaluation, the client opted to source the equipment from Shenzhen. To avoid any delays during transit, we prepared one week in advance, ensuring all customs procedures were completed smoothly.

2. Interpreter Selection and Preparatory Work

This event involved three languages—Mandarin, English, and Cantonese—and required interpreters with exceptional linguistic proficiency and deep subject matter expertise due to the highly specialized content.

Solution: We selected four elite interpreters from the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), known for their extensive experience, language skills, and industry knowledge. Prior to the event, we provided the interpreters with comprehensive materials, including the agenda and reference documents, to help them familiarize with the event content. Additionally, the interpreters received key vocabulary and terminology in advance to ensure consistency and accuracy in their interpretations.

3. High Signal Quality and On-Site Testing

The event took place in a cinema, where signal jammers could potentially interfere with the quality of the audio transmission to headphones, thereby affecting the interpretation experience.
Solution: During the equipment testing phase, we identified potential signal interference issues. To mitigate this risk and ensure a flawless event, tour guide systems were introduced as a contingency plan. These systems would serve as a backup in case of unstable signals, guaranteeing continuous and high-quality interpretation.
